Behold The Ocean

The giant kelp forest is an essential part of the blue carbon system that sequestrates half of all carbon circulating through the ocean. It is the largest of all seaweeds, reaching up to 65 meters in length. Under the threats of climate change, the climate conditions of Patagonia's unique fjord channel system provide refuge to this vital marine algae. This photograph was taken on an oceanographic expedition from Punta Arenas to the glacier of Isla Santa Inés during the global pandemic in December 2020, when environmental scientific work was severely restricted in Chile. 'Behold The Ocean' is a project about vulnerability and contrast in climate research.
